Doc Fix Bill with Delay in Medicare

Competitive Bidding Fails in Senate

At 8:20pm last night the U.S. Senate voted on a cloture motion regarding HR 6331 - the bill that would have delayed the competitive bidding program.  The motion failed on a 58 to 40 vote. Senator Dole (R) voted YES and Senator Burr (R) voted NO.  Most Republicans refused to support this as they said it would face a sure Presidential veto.  Pres. Bush said he would veto anything that cut private insurance.  Senator Dole listened to the will of the people by voting YES.  It is disappointing that Senator Burr voted no, but he stood firm on not allowing cuts to Medicare Advantage.

You all worked VERY hard to gain support for this bill look what you did on the House side!!  In North Carolina, 12 out of 13 of your Members of Congress voted FOR HR 6331 with only McHenry (R-10th) voting NO.  There is still hope read on...

What Happens Now?

The House and Senate will recess and take up votes again on July 7th.  A compromise bill will be introduced that has a delay for the Competitive Bidding program - it will have to pass the House and Senate.  Therefore the program will begin July 1st but will likely face a legislative delay after the compromise bill passes (after more grassroots lobbying by YOU!)  Obviously, this will be a nightmare to beneficiaries and their family members, providers, owners, managers, employees, and more!  Hang in there and wait for your next move!  Don't give up we still have a chance to make a difference.
